Tips & tricks for a better kitchen experience
Check this page out often to learn about my favourite tips and tricks in the kitchen. These will undoubtably make your kitchen journey more pleasant and allow you to save time (and even money sometimes. Win-win!)

Whip it, whip it real good!
When trying to beat egg whites to stiff peaks, you need PATIENCE. Whip, whip, whip, and then whip some more. At first, it'll seem like nothing is happening...then you'll see some bubbles pop up...then the eggs will get frothy...keep going! Eventually, they'll stiffen up. You'll know they're ready once you lift your beaters and the mixture doesn't fall off - literally stiff! Now you can fold these into your recipe...
Tssshhhh...not always a good sound
I know that there's something sexy about hearing your food sizzle however, no matter how much you want to hear that, I beg you not to press down on your meats when grilling thinking that you're cooking them better. What you're doing is squeezing the moisture out which will lead to a drier piece of meat. Just let it be without that ttsshhhhh..unless you WANT dry and chewy meat. If that's what you're going for, then you do you girl but please don't invite me over for a meal, ever! :p

Cooked rice in the fridge is fine..
I'm sure you saw the viral fear mongering video last year about the young man who died because he ate day old rice...What I'm not sure about is whether or not you fact checked this (pro tip: ALWAYS fact check everything - IG is full of nonsense). The facts: he didn't die because the rice was old. He died because he left the rice at room temperature overnight where it grew all kinds of unfriendly microorganisms that eventually led to his demise. The lesson? Refrigerate your food, people. That's it, that's all. Batch cook your rice in peace for the week and refrigerate/freeze it. You should be fine!
Spice up your life!
Ok, so it truly and honestly hurts my entire soul when I see people only cook with salt and pepper. There are literally HUNDREDS of spices out there that you can explore cooking with which will legit elevate your cooking to soaring heights. Next time you're browning ground beef, try throwing in some garlic powder, cinnamon (yes) and paprika. Grilling some chicken? Try some oregano, thyme and sumac. The possibilities are endless. Just please don't be afraid to play in the kitchen.. and if it's a flop..well, then, it'll be a flavourful flop!

You can be a basic B**** when baking
Ok, so you know how you constantly strive not to be basic? Do I have news for you. Being basic when it comes to baking is totally okay! Baking bread? You just need flour, water and yeast. Making a cake? Add eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, baking powder and butter. As long as you have these basics, you can bake quite a few things! The rest is just the icing on the cake, so to speak ;)
Through the looking glass...
By now, if you've gotten to know me a bit, you'll know that I can't stand all the drama caused by 'health influencers' online. It seems to be that the trend is to grab boring and mundane everyday necessities (ex. air..tap water, fruit), and turn them into the latest poisonous death trap. While I vehemently disagree with this approach, what I will tell you is that a few years ago, I threw out 95% of my plastic Tupperware in exchange for glass. Why? Glass is generally less harmful - it doesn't release any weird chemicals when heated, doesn't absorb odour/colour and is more durable (ie. sustainability FTW) so if you can make the switch, please do so!

Smooth like butter
One of the most underrated kitchen tools to have in your arsenal is an immersion blender. Want silky smooth soups? Immersion blender. Want to emulsify a delicious salad dressing? Immersion blender. Mashing silky potatoes? IMMERSION BLENDER. Just get one - trust me. There are a million uses for it. It's a life saver!
